College of Science & Engineering

Global Select Pathway Programme

Global Select is an exciting opportunity for the brightest and best students from countries whose secondary school qualifications are not yet accepted by the University for direct entry consideration to our Science and Engineering degree programmes, without having to gain further pre-university qualifications or an appropriate foundation course.

What is Global Select?

As one of the world’s leading universities, the University of Edinburgh has a long tradition of welcoming international students who can demonstrate the high academic standards we naturally demand of all students seeking a coveted place on one of our undergraduate degree programmes. Although the College of Science and Engineering is no exception in applying these admission principles, we realise that this could result in the exclusion of highly talented students from certain countries whose school leaving qualifications are not yet formally recognised by the University as a basis for direct entry.

Successful students gaining entry to the College through the Global Select route will join in Year 1 alongside their direct entry counterparts, pursuing exactly the same study regime and enjoying just the same privileges as fellow undergraduates throughout their standard 4-year degree programme.

First year Global Select students will benefit from additional support to improve their English language skills and fill any knowledge gaps in their chosen area of study identified by the pre-entry assessment exercise that all Global Select candidates are required to undertake.

I think this programme provides a great opportunity to enter one of the best universities in the world. It does not mean an extra year of study and I can take the same classes as the other students.
