Selected students can interrupt their veterinary studies for a year and take an Intercalated BSc (Vet Sci) Honours degree after successfully completing their second or subsequent years.

The course consists of a year of advanced study in one of the following areas:

You may, with permission, attend intercalated degree courses at the other UK veterinary establishments or in other parts of the University.

For exceptional candidates, there is also the possibility of a one-year MSc by research after the third year or even an intercalated three-year PhD.

Students can also enrol in the prestigious taught MSc in Animal Welfare and Behaviour or the new MSc in Equine Science.

BVM&S Veterinary Medicine with Integrated PhD (7-year course)

In addition to the research options offered, this new programme is designed for students with a first degree in a biological science.

Students follow the first two years of the graduate entry programme then spend four years combining their veterinary courses with PhD studies.

The final year is devoted to full-time research to complete their PhD.

This programme allows students to maintain contact with the veterinary programme as they pursue their research project.
