“The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) results have been a fantastic achievement for the School. They endorse the resource that the School has invested in recruiting excellent researchers, and producing the best research environment for staff and students.
“I am delighted that we have been rated as the top Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) accredited veterinary school, with the highest number of staff submitted (107), the highest Quality Index (45), and the highest proportion of staff rated as 4* (20%). This latest exercise has dissected out clear differences in ranking between the schools.
“Our excellent results have been largely due to our two major research centres - Roslin and our Centre for Infectious Diseases - demonstrating the strength of our interdisciplinary model for research. Our clinical research will reach new heights in 2009 with the introduction of a ‘Clinical Research Division’.
“The achievement of 20% of our research being classed as 4* (world leading) and 55% as 4* or 3* (world leading and internationally excellent), is outstanding for a veterinary school, and places us as the top UK vet school, and first equal in the 30 submissions included in UoA16 (Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Science)."
Professor Elaine Watson, Dean of the R(D)SVS
