Surgical research is based principally at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Western General Hospital under the auspices of the University.

The Surgical Informatics research group, led by Mr Ewen Harrison, uses state of the art data collection tools and analysis techniques to conduct cutting edge health informatics research in order to improve outcomes for surgical patients.

This Western General Hospital group is focussed on reducing the incidence and death rate from cancer of the large bowel.

This group at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is focused on the wasting syndrome associated with cancer, and how it affects patient function and survival.

This group at the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre is studying mechanisms of pancreatic progression and resistance to chemotherapy.
