School of Biological Sciences Taught Postgraduate Bursaries

The School of Biological Sciences is offering 8 bursaries of £5,000 to students studying one of the following taught masters’ programmes:

  • MSc Biochemistry
  • MSc Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants
  • MSc Bioinformatics
  • MSc Biotechnology
  • MSc Drug Discovery and Translational Biology
  • MSc Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology
  • MSc Systems and Synthetic Biology
  • MSc Quantitative Genetics & Genome Analysis (including Animal Breeding & Genetics, Evolutionary Genetics, Human Complex Trait Genetics)

The award is intended to assist with tuition fees, and is only tenable for the current session.


Applicants must have been offered a place on an eligible MSc at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer, or be intending to do so.

The bursaries will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.


Applicants should send an email registering their interest in applying for the bursary to the email address noted below.

Applicants should only email their interest once they have been offered a place on a relevant MSc programme.

When emailing, applicants must include both their UUN/application ID and the name of the programme(s) that they are applying for.

The deadline for applicants to register their interest is 2nd May 2015.


A Selection Committee will meet in May 2015 and the successful candidates will be notified by the end of May 2015.
