We recognise that, whilst coming to University is a very exciting time for students, it can nevertheless be quite stressful for parents and carers, so we hope this information will be helpful and will answer some of your questions.
The Student Counselling Service offers a range of support to matriculated students of the University.
In addition to the support available to students we can offer telephone consultation to parents and carers of students.
Our staff can offer help with any questions or concerns you have about students’ wellbeing. These may be related to the support needs of the students or where the required support can be obtained.
Whilst the staff are able to help with many of your questions and concerns, confidentiality is an essential aspect of our work, and will limit any information we can share with you. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the counselling relationship and it prevents counselling staff from discussing students without the express permission of the student, and staff will be unable to confirm in any way if your student has met with a counsellor.
Furthermore, staff are unable to initiate contact with a student.
Please contact us if you have any questions about our service and how we can be accessed or if you have any concerns about your son or daughter and wish to discuss it with someone.
