Through a combination of input by the Workshop Leaders, discussion in small groups, individual and group exercise you will have the opportunity to share experiences and practice new strategies. There are also plenty of handouts for you to take away.

| Description | <p>This is a five week group for PhD students.- From 25th October weekly until 22nd November 2011. ( Participants would be expected to attend all 5 sessions)</p> <p>This group will be run jointly by the Student Counselling Service and the Institute for Academic Development. The topics covered will include: work/life balance; accessing support systems and reducing isolation; staying motivated through difficult phases of your PHD and working with your supervisor. There will be input from the group leaders and discussion will be in small groups, pairs, and the larger group.The aim is to increase your understanding of these issues from a more psychological perspective whilst also being aware of the academic pressures; to suggest new strategies and to move away from a sense of isolation and having to manage on your own. It will allow you the opportunity to meet with students in a similar situation and to give each other support and encouragement.</p> |

| Description | <p>A workshop for students diaganosed with Dyslexia - we will outline aspects of dyslexia which can impact on your daily life, your self-concept and stress levels and look at developing effective support systems and management techniques.</p> |

| Description | <p>Do you avoid what has to be done, get overwhelmed by deadlines, experience work blocks, feel stuck? Procrastination is a habit that can be broken. In this workshop, led jointly by the Student Counselling Service and a Study Development Advisor (TLA) combines a psychological and practical approach in a supportive group setting culminates with each participant writing their own action plan. We will look at what procrastination is, what keeps you doing it, what you could do differently, and how to stop putting things off, and get on with your life.</p> |
