International Office

The International Office provides a support service to Colleges and Schools in relation to the advancement of the University's Internationalisation strategy and works closely with the Vice Principal (Internationalisation).

The Office provides a range of services to overseas students and undertakes activity in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North America. and the University's network of overseas representatives based in the same regions.

The International Office also co-ordinates the activity of the University’s two international offices. The China Office in Beijing and the India Office, based in Mumbai. These liaison offices seek to support the University's strategic engagement with China and India, through the development of relationships and collaboration with leading institutions.

Appointed as Director of the International Office in 2005. He is responsible for implementing the Internationalisation Strategy working with the Vice Principal (International) including management of international projects, recruitment, mobility, student support and the University’s overseas offices in China and India.

Alan has experience of educational projects and coordinating high level engagement with a range of nations including China; Russia; India; USA and Latin America. He has worked extensively in the Russian Federation and the USA and prior to joining the University of Edinburgh he worked at the University of St Andrews.

He is a member of Universities Scotland International Committee; Universitas 21 International Directors Group; International Executive Group; Admissions and Recruitment Committee; University Secretary’s Student and Academic Services Senior Management Team and the International Projects Group.
