Biological Services supports the University Certificate Holder in fulfilling their responsibilities under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (A(SP)A).
This includes development and monitoring of systems and practices, such that the health and welfare of animals used in research is of the highest standard, that high ethical standards are adhered to among researchers using animals, and that the University is in full compliance with legislation governing the use of animals in research.
Biological Services provides Named Veterinary Surgeon Services to all animal units included in The University of Edinburgh's Certificate of Designation.
Biological Services also supports project licence applicants in preparation and submission of project licences, organises training events for licensees, including mandatory training for personal licence applicants, and administers and supports the Ethical Review Process under A(SP)A.
