Driver requirements
Potential drivers wishing to hire a minibus from the Centre for Sport and Exercise must meet Sports Transport Pool (STP) requirements.
Who can drive our vehicles?
Drivers of STP vehicles must:
- Be a student or staff member of the University of Edinburgh,
- Be over 21,
- Have a full drivers licence (five penalty points maximum allowed),
- Have a current eyesight certificate,
- Hold a valid STP permit.
Alumni eligibility
Alumni are also eligible to drive providing that they are officially registered as an active sports club member.
Who can use our vehicles to tow?
Drivers meeting the following conditions are eligible to drive a 17-seat minibus whilst towing a trailer:
- Drivers who passed their car-driving test before 31 December 1996,
- Drivers who have a D1 + E endorsement on their licence.
For drivers who are not eligible to tow with a 17-seat minibus, an 8-seat minibus is available which can tow a trailer that does not exceed 750 kilograms gross weight.
Towing authorisation
If a towing authorisation is required then it is the driver's responsibility to ensure an appropriate trailer is available when sitting the test.
