The Pleasance gym

The University of Edinburgh’s main gym facilities and indoor sport centre are based at the Pleasance, situated in the heart of the city.

The Pleasance complex houses two multi-purpose sports halls, catering for a diverse range of indoor sports - everything from badminton to ultimate frisbee.

There are also a number of sports-specific areas including:

  • dance studios
  • squash courts with glass-backings
  • boxing and martial arts areas
  • archery and rifle ranges
  • climbing/bouldering walls

As part of our recreation programme we hold over 50 weekly exercise classes which are included within the Centre for Sport and Exercise (CSE) membership.

Our Gym Support staff are on hand to offer CSE members gym advice in each of our fitness suites, whilst personal training is available at an affordable, additional cost. Our fitness suites include:

  • 100 station state-of-the-art cardiovascular suite
  • body circuit gym
  • free weights gyms
  • fixed weight (Eric Liddell) gym
  • body conditioning (MyGym)

We also offer our members free timetabled lane swimming at our 25 metre pool facility which can be found in the St. Leonard’s Building situated around the corner from the main Pleasance building on Holyrood Road.

So, whether your interest is an occasional visit to the gym or competing at national level, we’re sure to have something to suit your needs!
