Winter skills at Firbush

Places are still available for our 4-day Winter skills course which runs from Friday 23 to Tuesday 27 March.

This course is aimed at beginners and those with some experience of Winter Walking who wish to develop their personal skills.

We will cover:

  • Navigation and route choice
  • Ice axe and crampon use
  • Security on steep ground
  • Emergency shelters
  • A night out on the mountain either in snow-shelters or high level camping depending on snow conditions
  • Avalanche and weather awareness

Cost and availability

Course costs inclusive of course instruction, full board and use of equipment at Firbush as follows:

  • Students: £121.50
  • UoE Staff: £136.50
  • All others: £153.00
