Information on terms of employment and probation periods for new employees.
A probation period is designed to let employers (and the new employee) assess how well the individual is coping with their new role within the University.
As outlined in the conditions of service, new staff to the University have clearly delineated probationary periods.
The length of the probation period depends on the pay grade.
Grade 1-5: Your employment is subject to an initial six-month probationary period from the date of your appointment.
Grade 6-10: Your employment is subject to an initial one-year probationary period from the date of your appointment.
Note that internal transfers from one position to another within the University do not have a probationary period in their new post.
