The University recognises the need for appropriate systems for ensuring that quality is maintained in all aspects of teaching.
There should be clear assurance to all stakeholders (students, parents, employers, government and the public) that standards, quality and value for money are provided throughout the University.
The procedures of the university are scrutinised in the light of the Code of Practice issued by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).
Postgraduate Research External Examiners have a dedicated wiki page for all aspects of the examination of Thesis for PhD, MPhil and MSc by Research.
All External Examiners for taught courses are asked to submit the Report Form (QAEE4) after the main diet of examination boards (normally in May/June). The reports should be sent electronically from a registered email address to the Dean of Quality Assurance at the College on email: DeanQA.sce@ed.ac.uk.
Taught Postgraduate Examiners are also asked to complete the short Dissertation report (QAEE4b) after the final examination board (normally Sept/Oct) .
Fees are paid after the submission of the Report Form (QAEE4). Examiners should allow two months from the date of submission for the payment. All payments are subject to a current employment contract and verification of eligiblity to work in the UK. A delay in receipt of these will result in a delay in processing any fee.
Note:
Joint Examiners who are responsible for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be paid in two parts the undergraduate part after submission of the Report form (QAEE4) and the postgraduate part after submission of the Dissertation Report (QAEE4b).
External Examiner Expenses are dealt with by the School. Please send any expenses claims directly to them.
If you have any enquiries about these forms, require further information or to report a broken link, please contact Carol Ward - see below.
