Interviews (undergraduate) *INCLUDE FULL*
Undergraduate students are given two interviews with their Personal Tutor in their first year.
Annual interview - Freshers’ week
Personal Tutor interview all undergraduates the week before classes begin.
The aims of this interview are:
- to establish initial contact and understanding of the roles and expectations of both the student and the Personal Tutor
- to ensure that the student will be fully matriculated by the end of the first week of teaching
- to select future courses and review progress and performance to date
- for students who are proceeding to the next year with less than a full set of credits, to make arrangements for enrolment on any additional courses, as set out in a progression concession granted by the Senior Director or College
- to discuss any exceptional course concessions, which need to be referred to the School’s Curriculum Approval Officer
- To discuss any specific managed adjustment needed, and review any existing managed adjustments
- to discuss future career plans
Mid-year interviews
Personal Tutors must see all first year students when the results from the first semester examinations/ assessments are available. We recommended that Personal Tutors also review the performance of students in later years of study at this point, and arrange meetings with individual students if they appear to be struggling.
The aims of this interview are:
- to find out if the student is settling in
- to discuss performance to date
- to identify any skills gaps - like study skills - that are impacting on performance
- to identify any special circumstances that may need resolution, such as referral to support service
- to establish if any managed adjustments are in place and are working well
All students must attend meetings with their Personal Tutor. Failure to do so will be followed up under the College’s non-attendance monitoring procedures
