Identifying genetic variants underlying psychiatric conditions.
Psychiatric Genetics seeks to identify the common and rare genetic variants that underlie major mental illness, learning disability and related traits such as temperament, brain structure and function.
We then use these variants to better understand the mechanisms of mental disorder through the development of human, non-human and cellular models of these disorders.
Our work involves collaborations with many other individuals within Edinburgh and throughout the world, and the use of several methodologies.
