Researching autism and intellectual disabilities.
Research into autism and intellectual disabilities at the Division of Psychiatry is primarily carried out in collaboration with the Patrick Wild Centre.
Three major overlapping themes of investigation are pursued within the Division
- clinical research, including trials of new therapeutic interventions
- investigation of the genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders
- examination the brain structure and function associated with autism and ID

- Social cognition and central coherence in young people with autistic traits and their first degree relatives (Dr Catherine Best, Professor Eve Johnstone)
- Emotion processing in autism spectrum disorder (Dr Ruth Philip, Professor Jeremy Hall, Dr Heather Whalley, Dr Andrew Stanfield, Professor Stephen Lawrie)
