Procurement timescales and thresholds

Guidance on the thresholds and typical timescales applicable to all procurements.

Two of the most frequently asked questions that we get asked are:

  1. How do I procure ("buy stuff")?
  2. How long does it take to procure (“buy stuff”)?

The answer to the first questions is that you should follow these three simple steps:

  1. Obtain from an internal department or buy from a contracted supplier
  1. Obtain quotes (below £50,000)
  2. Do a plan / tender (above £50,000)

Option 1 is the easiest and preferred route.

Option 2 and 3 will take progressively more time and effort.

Option 3 is very likely to involve assistance from procurement.
