The School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures is delighted to welcome visiting academic scholars.
Academics, scholars and researchers may apply to visit the School for a period of 1 to 12 months, whether for a short research visit or for an extended stay during sabbatical leave from their own university. The applicant should have a specific research reason to be in Edinburgh, either because of materials available in the University library or because of a research link with a current member of the University staff.
Individuals wishing to be considered as a Visiting Scholar need to obtain the agreement of a member of academic staff within the School to act as their Academic Sponsor. Applicants should make contact by email initially with their contact, from the relevant Subject Area. Once the Academic Sponsor has agreed to host the Visiting Scholar, the Academic Sponsor will process the application.
The fee structure for will be £150 per calendar month, to be paid in full in advance of the agreed visit. Information regarding payment of the fee will be provided once the visit has been approved by the Head of Subject Area and Head of School.
Please note that applicants must be able to meet the criteria for Academic Visitors (if coming from outside the EEA, this includes being on sabbatical from their home institution). Further information on the criteria given by the UK Border Agency is at:
