Knowledge Exchange in LLC Overview

Overview

In the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Knowledge Exchange (KE) activities include collaborative or contract research and related commercial activities, dissemination of research and expertise through consultancy, continuing professional development initiatives, public events and outreach projects, and some publications. In addition to the benefits such activities bring to the wider world, KE augments our reputation for excellence, contributes to a healthy and productive research environment and generates income from fees and funding to support future activities and research.

The CHSS KE Office is located within ERI and can help support academic colleagues by raising consciousness about KE opportunities and identifying and stimulating commercial and Knowledge Exchange activities. To achieve this they provide a range of services including business planning, marketing, and developing bids for external funding. The KE Office also provides support for networking groups, organises ‘Industry Days’ and other outreach events that bring together researchers and people from the public and private sectors, and provides seed-corn funding for KE activities through the College’s Knowledge Exchange Grant budget.

Knowledge Exchange in LLC

LLC has a tradition of public events and outreach projects and consequently the School is a strong performer within the KE budget. Events organised with the assistance of the KE Office this year have included film screenings and discussions on the subject of censorship in the German Democratic Republic; readings from refugee poets based in Scotland; presentations and discussions on the theme of "Memory Dreams Sleep" in literature and film; a photographic exhibition on the Buddhist religion and a series of events exploring the legacy of David Hume among many others.

The Knowledge Exchange Office is keen to organise further industry days and networking events and would welcome enquiries from colleagues within the School. For information or advice on Knowledge Exchange activities, please visit the Knowledge Exchange website
