With its numerous cinemas, its international and national film festivals and its wealth of galleries and cultural institutes, the city of Edinburgh has much to offer to students of film, including occasional part-time job opportunities and unpaid internships.
Further opportunities to gain experience will be provided on campus: In year 2 PhD students who have progressed well with their research may be offered teaching experience in the form of tutorials for the undergraduate year 2 ‘Introduction to European Cinema’ course.
To complement the careers office’s support and events, Film Studies usually hosts some sessions with professionals (journalists, festival organizers, art house programme officers, editors).
The CiNet lecture series also offers excellent opportunities to network in your field.
You will be encouraged to try your hands at cinema curatorship by organising film screenings and mini-festivals for your fellow students and you may wish to become involved with an academic journal, Forum, edited by our postgraduate students, which publishes pieces on film.
