Alan Warner is currently Writer in Residence for the University of Edinburgh. He was born in 1964 in Oban and brought up there. He attended the University of Glasgow as a postgraduate student.
His first novel, Morvern Callar, was published in 1995 and won the Somerset Maugham prize. His second novel, These Demented Lands won an Encore Award and The Sopranos won the Saltire Book of the Year for 1998. These were followed by The Man Who Walks, The Worms Can Carry Me to Heaven and the sequel to The Sopranos: The Stars in the Bright Sky, which was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2010.
In 2003 he was selected as one of the Granta Best of Young British Novelists. Morvern Callar was filmed in 2002.
