Outline Biography

Research Interests

My work is centrally concerned with socio-political aspects in Contemporary Spanish Literature. I received a Licenciatura in Ciencias de la Información (Periodismo) from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and my PhD from University of Virginia in Hispanic Studies with a dissertation on the poet and publisher Carlos Barral. My research interests are centred on popular culture and the relevance of historical events in literary production. I wrote the first biography of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, analyzing the period in which he grew up (early Franquismo) and the influence that it had on his development as journalist and novelist. I also studied the works of Eduardo Mendoza, having published two books on him to date. I have centred my study on the influences he had from XIX century authors and the Latin American Boom.
