Overview
French at Edinburgh University has enjoyed a consistently excellent record in research and publications, reflected in the outcomes of successive Research Assessment Exercises.
In the first evaluation, the French section was one of the few to be given a star and in the 2001 exercise, the section was given a rating of 5 (out of 5). With 85% of our research activity judged as being of international standard or above in the 2008 RAE exercise, the French Section has a very strong overall ranking within the discipline.
We have a sizeable, dynamic, enterprising, and steadily expanding community of research postgraduate students, which means that incoming postgraduates will find themselves in a stimulating and supportive environment.
Research degrees
We offer supervision for the MSc by Research, MPhil and PhD degrees in most areas of French cultural studies.
