Taught Masters regulations

You should have obtained the course handbook for your programme. This will clarify the requirements and regulations of your degree.

The courses taken in the autumn and spring semesters are assessed by marked written assignments.

Core theory courses

You will submit two essays of 4,000 words written in relation to the autumn and spring semester core theory courses.

For more information, please refer to the LLC handbook for Taught Masters students:

Research skills course

This course is obligatory for most but not all taught masters programmes. It takes place over the first week of semester 1, and you will be assessed by your successful production of a research bibliography on a pass/fail basis.

Students who do not obtain a pass grade will be permitted to resubmit this assignment for consideration by the summer Board of Examiners, together with the other assessed work.

Research methods and problems

At the end of week 5 of semester 2, you must submit a research plan, topic, title and working bibliography for an independent research paper to your designated dissertation supervisor.

For students proceeding to the Diploma, this will be marked as a self-contained exercise; for students proceeding to the MSc, this will be the first stage of your dissertation project.

This component of the course is marked on a pass-fail basis.

It is the responsibility of all students to hand in copies of their essays in duplicate, as indicated by their programme director.

Plagiarism

You must acquaint yourself with the University policy on plagiarism.
