Postgraduate facilities

Postgraduate facilities at Edinburgh are excellent.

Libraries

The University Library contains a large collection of modern and classical Chinese books and journals plus English-language works on China and Chinese studies. The Chinese Class Library has a growing collection of books in Chinese and English and Chinese-language film videos.

Postgraduate students can also obtain access to the National Library of Scotland, conveniently located ten minutes walk from the Centre. The Central Library, opposite the National Library and run by the City of Edinburgh District Council, is also open for borrowing and reference by all residents.

Computer facilities

Edinburgh University is exceptionally well-equipped with computer facilities of all kinds; English, Chinese and Japanese word-processing is available in the Arts Microlab, which also provides training courses for beginners.

Limited desk accommodation in the Postgraduate Centre is provided, and all postgraduates have 24-hour access to the Class Library.

Chinese cultural societies

The Edinburgh University Chinese Cultural Society (run by undergraduates) annually mounts a series of cultural and social events, sometimes in cooperation with the Edinburgh Chinese Students and Scholars Association with whom we have good links.

The Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh arranges annual lectures by distinguished visiting speakers from other parts of the UK and abroad, reflecting the international contacts and reputations of the academic staff.

The Scotland China Association holds a wide range of cultural events both in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

We also maintain good relations with local community organisations for residents of Chinese descent.
