Working after studies

Once you have completed your course of studies at the University of Edinburgh, you may wish to stay on in the UK to work.

Tier 2 (Skilled) Worker visa

Most graduates who wish to stay and work in the UK will need to use the Tier 2 (Skilled) Worker route.

Other types of work visa

If you wish to remain in the UK to work after your studies, there are several other types of work visa which you may wish to consider.

Students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland

You don’t need to apply for permission to work in the UK.

However, your employer will probably ask you for proof of where you’re from - your passport will normally be sufficient.

There is no limit on the time you can live here or the type of work that you can do.

Students from Bulgaria or Romania

Entitlement to work is restricted for people from Bulgaria or Romania.

If you want to take up a job after your studies, you must apply for registration certificate BR2 before you can start working.
