Kate graduated from Heriot-Watt University and spent 23 years working in IT, initially with local government, but mainly in the banking industry.

Activities included programming, systems analysis, systems programming and project management across a wide range of platforms, as well as a three year period in Internal Audit, specialising in computer audit.

She was elected to professional membership of the British Computer Society in 1997, and achieved Associate (IT) membership of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland in 1999.

Kate joined the University’s Internal Audit service in September 2005. She undertook a course of study with the Institute of Internal Auditors and was awarded the Practitioner of Institute of Internal Auditors (PIIA) qualification in 2008. In 2010 she completed examination requirements for the advanced diploma and full chartered membership of the Institute (CMIIA).

Outside work, Kate enjoys Scottish music; she plays pipes in a local pipe band and plays fiddle in a fiddle orchestra. She is an active church member and also enjoys reading, running, cycling and family activities.
