Code of Practice

The University’s Code of Practice for the Management of Research Staff outlines a number of areas of responsibility for you, your manager and the University.

What is it about?

It provides guidance on how your employment with the University, the progress of your research, and your professional and career development should be managed. It also includes information and advice supporting individuals to take responsibility for their own career management and planning.

It includes information targeted at both early career, and long term, researchers.

Where can I get a copy?

You can download a copy here, or you can contact our office if you'd like to be sent a hard copy version.

Who wrote it?

The Code of Practice was developed by academic research staff of the University, to support the management and development of all researchers.

The Postgraduate Student and Research Staff Skills Steering Group, chaired by Professor Mary Bownes, set up a working group to create the Code. This group, chaired by Professor Andrew Jarman, comprised Principal Investigators, research staff, HR and staff development staff.

We are grateful to all those academic staff who contributed to its development, and who provided input and feedback during its pilot phase.
