'Postgraduate Essentials' is an interactive on-line orientation course for new doctoral researchers.

You can network with other students whilst gaining the practical information and skills necessary to make the best possible start to your PhD.

The course runs in the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Learn and is made up of 6 time released modules and a variety of discussion forums. The 6 modules are live for 1 - 2 weeks each, covering the following topics:

Description

'Postgraduate Essentials' is an interactive on-line course for PhD researchers starting the first year of their PhD. The course offers the opportunity to network with other students whilst gaining the practical information and skills necessary to make the best possible start to your PhD.
The course runs in Learn, the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and is made up of 6 time released modules and a variety of forums. The 6 modules, each live for 1 week, cover the following topics:
              

  • Starting your PhD
  • Getting Organised
  • Working with your Supervisor
  • Searching the Literature
  • Writing a Literature Review
  • Preparing for Confirmation

This course relates to domains A1, B2, and C2 of the RDF.
