Principal's Career Development Scholars
Information on training and development for Award Holders (PhD students) of the Principal’s Career Development PhD Scholarships Scheme, and their supervisors.
Local development support
Holders of a Principal’s Career Development PhD Scholarship will participate in additional professional development activities tailored to a specific career area (e.g. teaching, public engagement, entrepreneurship).
This activity will mostly take place and be coordinated locally (e.g. in Schools or Centres).
Central University support for scholarship scheme holders
We - along with Edinburgh Beltane Beacon for Public Engagement - have identified a range of additional centrally organised training and support that can be accessed by award holders if required. This complements and supplements local activities.
University teaching
Orientation and enhanced development workshops (including applications for individual Higher Education Academy accreditation), tutoring handbook and online resources for tutors and demonstrators.
Public engagement
Edinburgh Beltane Beacon for Public Engagement can offer:
- access to on-line training and development database
- informal mentoring from professionals working in public engagement
- e-portfolio professional development planning
- membership of Beltane Beacon and invitations to Beacon events
- Edinburgh Beltane Beacon for Public Engagement main website
- Edinburgh Beltane public engagement training and development database

Entrepreneurship
We offer:
- business and enterprise training workshops covering a range of business and entrepreneurial skills
- residential enterprise schools
- business plan competitions
The University LAUNCH.ed unit supports students to start up their own business.
