The PgCAP is a part-time academic programme open to both University of Edinburgh staff and external students. All must have current work-based learning opportunities in their employed roles that have a significant role in supporting learning, teaching or assessment - or have tertiary level teaching responsibilities.
New teaching staff are expected and encouraged to participate in the orientation and to attend at least two optional courses.
**important note (1 December 2012)**
Arrangements for orientation and academic development support for new academic staff are expected to be reviewed and updated during 2013/14. We have recently been provided with clarification on the expectations and requirements for new staff. The current position is that all new academic staff are expected and encouraged to participate in the two-day orientation to Academic Practice programme and to take part in at least two optional courses.
Experienced staff may enrol in any individual option, participate in the orientation, or to enrol in the full accredited programme.
Currently registered doctoral students and early career research staff at the University of Edinburgh may be eligible if they meet the access criteria.
External students may apply for this programme; your application will be assessed based on your CV, academic profile and your current access to work-based learning reflective opportunities. The first stage is to contact the Programme Manager at:
Alternatively, you may be interested in other development opportunities for tutors and demonstrators.
To register, download and complete the programme registration form, and email it to the address on the form.
Students will be charged for courses on this programme at normal UoE course fees:
University of Edinburgh employees with teaching responsibilities, or those who play a significant role in supporting learning, teaching and assessment are eligible for a fees-waiver for this programme (i.e. courses on this programme will not charged).
If you leave the employ of the University of Edinburgh before completing the programme you will be expected to self-fund any courses which you take after your contract ends.
Note that this programme is accredited to the Higher Education Academy leading directly to Fellowship for successful graduates, if they remain in the employ of the University. Should a member of UoE staff have completed their employment contract before completing the programme, it is likely that HEA would charge a fee for any independent applications for Fellowship.
