General Research File Storage
ECDF now offers general file services using NAS (Network Attached Storage). This data is accessible from a user's workstation.
HPC File Storage
A large amount of high performance fibre channel storage is available to users of the compute part of the ECDF, Eddie. This can be accessed from a user's workstation.
Backup Services
ECDF storage can be backed up. A monthly cycle of complete backup and weekly incremental backup is used. ECDF will also provide a backup service for research servers
Raw data services
In addition to offering file services to end users, the ECDF can also assist with the provision of large scale block device storage systems in collaboration with School IT staff. Please get in touch using IS.Helpline@ed.ac.uk to discuss if you are interested. We currently provide services for:
- UKQCD - 50TB of SAN disk for the QCD-OC system
- GridPP - 32TB of SAN disk for the LCG to store data coming from CERN's Large Hadron Collider, connected to two storage servers supported by the ECDF
Version Control Service
The Version Control Service is a standard central Subversion repository which can be used to store versions of source code and research papers.
