EVS

Complementary to the World Values Survey (WVS), the European Values Study (EVS), a large-scale longitudinal survey, has facilitated a cross-national and cross-cultural comparison of changing values and attitudes in a wide range of topics across Europe. With a focus on basic human values, it provides insights into the ideas, beliefs, preferences, attitudes, values and opinions of citizens all over Europe.

There have been four waves of the EVS to date:

  • Wave 1: 1981
  • Wave 2: 1990
  • Wave 3: 1999-2000
  • Wave 4: 2009-2010

Between them both the WVS and the EVS provide data from representative surveys in 97 societies and 90% of the global population.
