Finding data

The Scottish Election Study takes the form of a three-wave internet panel survey, with data collection undertaken by YouGov. The aim of the study is to explain the decisions of Scottish voters on 3 May 2007, both whether and for which party they voted. As well as voting behaviour, the survey questionnaires cover the following topics: attitudes to parties and leaders; issue opinions and evaluations; national identity; constitutional preferences; socio-demographic characteristics.

Details of the three waves of data collection are:

  • 'Pre' - the pre-election wave, N=1872, fieldwork in mid-April 2007
  • 'Post' - the post-election wave, N=1552, fieldwork in May 2007
  • 'Follow-up' - an additional wave concerned largely with aspects of electoral administration, fieldwork in December 2007

The Scottish Election Study (SES) was modelled closely on the British Election Studies (BES) held at the Data Archive (GN 33066).
