Library opening hours

Access to Main Library

Entrance to the Main Library building is by valid University card or Library card only.

All registered students and staff of the University of Edinburgh can access the Library with their University id card, via the swipe gates
External users should report to the Reception desk on arrival to register for a reference card or external borrower's library card
Registrations for reference cards or external borrower's library cards can only be done during Helpdesk staffed hours
To register reference and external library users must ensure they have the necessary appropriate ID (photographic ID and proof of address), otherwise registration can not be completed and access will not be possible
University card replacement services are only available during Helpdesk staffed hours
Last admission to the Library is 10 minutes before the building closes
Out of Helpdesk staffed hours access to the Library building is only guaranteed for swipe card holders. Those with day passes, external borrowers cards and reference cards are allowed access at the Library's discretion.
