Chemical Database Service (CDS)

Access information:Freely available to members of UK Academic institutions listed (including University of Edinburgh). Registration is required to use this service.
Description:Provides access to a number of crystallography, physical chemistry, spectroscopy databases and the software packages and tools with which to interrogate them and interpret their contents. A national service providing access to chemical information to the UK academic community for non-commercial use. Hosted by Daresbury Laboratory (of the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils).
Coverage:Databases include: Cambridge Structural Database DETHERM Thermophysical Properties Database SPRESIweb as a full evaluation trial.

Access information:Access on- and off-campus. May require VPN from off-campus.
Description:Chemical reaction, structure and property data for organic and inorganic compounds. Also bibliographic data. Search by chemical structures and reactions as well as text. Contains the information from Gmelin and Beilstein.

Access information: Requires personal registration. Off-campus, you must be accessing the University network via the VPN service.
After 20 minutes of inactivity sessions will be closed automatically.
Description:Bibliographic information and abstracts of articles published from more than 10,000 journals. Covers chemistry (all aspects), chemical structures and patents, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, genetics. Information on more than 50 million chemical substances.
Search by chemical structure or text. Full reaction searching allows you to specify reaction sites and map atoms in the reactants. Also, information on patents, chemical suppliers and regulations. Cited reference searching is possible.

Description:Web of Knowledge hosts the ISI Citation Indexes in the Web of Science (WoS) section which contains citations and abstracts to millions of journal articles and conference proceedings from all subjects. Cited Reference Searches should use WoS. Email alerts available.

Access information:Access on and off campus.
Description: Provides access to the British Library’s Electronic Table of Contents of approximately 20,000 current journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published per year. The database covers all subjects and is updated daily. Table of Contents alerts are available.
