If you are unable to attend a course you have booked, please cancel your place through the MyEd Event Booking channel or by contacting IS Skills. Attendance is recorded, and failure to attend on the day without prior notice may affect your future bookings.

For over-subscribed courses we frequently offer standby places to people on the waiting list. If you are not in attendance before the course starts, your place may be reallocated as a standby.

Excel 2010: Absolute Beginners

Description

This course gives a good grounding in the basics of using Excel 2010, and is intended for beginners or people with little prior experience. It covers:

  • What spreadsheets are and how they work
  • Navigating around Excel 2010, including the Ribbon and Backstage area
  • Creating, saving and editing workbooks
  • Entering text and data into a workbook
  • Selecting data ranges
  • Applying basic formatting to text/data, cells, rows and columns
  • Moving and copying cells
  • Using basic formulas and functions to perform calculations
  • Controlling page set up
  • Printing workbooks

Prerequisites: A general understanding of personal computers and the Windows operating system environment

Introduction to Visualizing Data in ArcGIS

Description

The afternoon GIS course focuses on practical issues of importing spatial data into desktop mapping packages and adding attribute data to a base map, rather than spatial analysis. Intro to GIS, converting data for import, thematic mapping (adding point data) and making choropleth maps from Census data are covered.

Power Hour: Filters & Pivot Tables in Excel 2010

Description

This hour long taster provides a demonstration on using  Pivot Tables to analyse data in Excel 2010.  We also look at using filters to control what you see when working with a spreadsheet.

Using EDINA Digimap

Description

The morning Digimap course involves using the EDINA Digimap online service, e.g. how to make a map, save and print, using the advanced services, e.g. Gazetteer, understanding OS grid references, using Digimap Carto to customise online maps, and Digimap download (as preparation for an afternoon course 'Introduction to visualizing data in ArcGIS').
