SPSS License Codes
When SPSS is installed manually as Site License installation, you will need a current authorization code to complete the installation. Then every year in September you will need to enter a new code authorize the software for the next academic year.
For SPSS installed through a managed desktop package, the license should update automatically via the license server and you need take no action. Also Network Installation will connect to a license server directly, so you won't need annual codes.
If your school provided you with SPSS then they should provide you with codes each year - so check with them first.
Requesting the latest license code
We distribute codes to whoever pays for the license, so contact whoever paid for your license in the first place. Or contact Software Services if you've paid to request the latest code at IS.Software.codes email address
To speed the process up please specify:
- your name and uun if you know it,
- whether you are an academic Staff member or Student
- your unit/department and school
- the version of SPSS
- your computer's operating system.
- We will only issue codes if the software has been paid for, so please tell us who has paid for it if it's not you.
Please note: Never email authorization codes or license codes to the main Software Services email address, IS help services or to unidesk but rather always use the specific IS.software.codes address.
Adding the latest license code
Either during the installation or at the annual renewal time you need to add the latest license code using SPSS Licence Authorization Wizard.

Checking your SPSS license
You can check the date when your copy of SPSS is licensed until and what modules you have available using the SPSS syntax command SHOW LIC. or SHOW LICENSE.
Use the following steps to run the command:
- Launch SPSS.
- Choose 'File' > 'New' > 'Syntax' from the menu to open a new SPSS syntax window.
- Type in the command SHOW LIC. into the syntax window (including the full stop).
- Choose 'Run' > 'All' from the menu.
The output window should contain a table similar to the example below from 2009. Not all these modules will be available under different operating systems.
