Microsoft products are widely used at the university.
Schools and units rent or purchase licenses cheaply through one of two schemes. Students and staff can take advantage of various offerings to use/buy the software at home.
Most university schools and units subscribe to the Microsoft Campus Scheme. Alternatively licenses for products not covered by Campus can be bought through the Microsoft Select Scheme..
N.B. Neither scheme covers new Windows licenses, just upgrades.
An annual subscription scheme which allows the majority of Schools and Staff members access to the core Microsoft desktop and server products such as Office and Windows.
A scheme allowing University departments to purchase perpetual product licenses and maintenance (software assurance) at reduced prices on a wide range of Microsoft products.
Staff and students can buy personal copies of Microsoft software through cheap deals from external stores for students, which sometimes includes staff.
N.B. Staff counted in the Campus agreement or with license bought through Select have Work At Home rights to install the software at home for university work. Alternativelly they can buy a personal copy under the Home Use Program. However they must delete the software when they leave the University.
