Introduction

If you wish to enable full disk encryption on a Mac OS X laptop we recommend you use the FileVault encryption service that comes as part of the operating system. To enable this please follow these instructions.

Please ensure that you have all important data backed up before running this process. You may also wish to backup any personal data (such as photographs) as FileVault performs a full disk encryption.
