Kaspersky anti-virus contains 7 separate protection components; File Anti-Virus, Mail Anti-Virus, Web Anti-Virus, Proactive Defence, Anti-Spy, Anti-Hacker and Anti-Spam.
We have preconfigured Kaspersky to provide more than ample protection for most users.
| Kaspersky protection component | Setting |
|---|---|
| File Anti-Virus | Enabled |
| Mail Anti-Virus | Enabled |
| Web Anti-Virus | Enabled |
| Proactive Defence | Enabled |
| Anti-Spy | Enabled |
| Anti-Hacker | Not installed * |
| Anti-Spam | Disabled ** |
* Anti-Hacker is a firewall service. As the built in windows firewall is more than adequate for most users this component is not installed.
** Anti-Spam filters and flags email messages it believes to be spam. We recommend leaving this component disabled and instead relying on the spam filtering built into staffmail and sms.

The University's preferred configuration does not have all Kaspersky protection components enabled.
Kaspersky may continue to notify you that certain components are not enabled.
To enable or disable components or modify any of their settings right click the Kaspersky icon in the notification area next to the clock and select Settings...

All users are advised to use our preconfigured installation of Kaspersky.
An unconfigured Kaspersky MP4 package is available for advanced users for which no documentation or support is provided.
You must read and accept the terms of Kaspersky’s license agreement before downloading the unconfigured Kaspersky package.
