Charges for new telephone extensions and changes to existing extensions.
All new telephone extensions will be provided using VoIP telephones. Two general types of extension are available:
A desk-based VoIP telephone requires a wired connection to the University’s data network. The telephone can either use a dedicated data port, or else can use the same data port as an existing PC. (In the latter case, the PC will connect to the telephone, and the telephone connects to the data network.)
Three kinds of fixed telephones with hand-held receivers are available. They can be desk- or wall-mounted, and (in addition to a data connection) require a 13A mains power socket. Both include "speakerphone" capability. They differ in the number of programmable buttons available - these can be used as "speed dial" buttons and/or "busy" indications (within certain limitations).
Two types of conference telephones are also available. These are suitable for holding meetings with a group of people round a table. They also require a data connection and a 13A mains power socket.
| Description | Cost |
|---|---|
| “Standard” telephone (DT710 6DE) with six programmable keys, suitable for most requirements. | £325 |
| "Moderate use" telephone (DT730 12D) with 12 programmable keys. | £370 |
| “Heavy use” telephone (DT730 24D) with 24 programmable keys, suitable for (e.g.) receptionists. | £415 |
| Conference telephone (SoundStation IP 5000), suitable for small meeting rooms and offices. | £725 |
| Conference telephone (SoundStation IP 6000), suitable for small to medium-sized meeting rooms. | £975 |
These costs include the telephone itself, the mains power unit, necessary licenses, physical installation, registration, software configuration, extension allocation and commissioning by Telephone Operations. The costs do not include the provision of a data network port or mains power socket.
Please note that VoIP telephones from other vendors cannot be installed without explicit approval from Telephone Operations. Approval will only be given in exceptional circumstances, since such telephones may not work properly and will not offer the same level of functionality as the above units.
If you have a VoIP telephone and wish to upgrade it to a different model, the prices are as follows. Note that this pricelist assumes that you return the existing telephone in good working condition so that it can be re-used.
| Upgrade from | Upgrade to | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| DT710 6-button | DT730 12-button | £50 |
| DT710 6-button | DT730 24-button | £95 |
| DT730 12-button | DT730 24-button | £50 |
If you require a new handset for an existing IP DECT installation, the cost will be £270. This is for a NEC G355 handset plus mains charger/cradle.
If you wish to install a new IP DECT system, please contact Telephones and Security Systems to discuss your requirements.
If you need to relocate an existing (analogue) telephone extension number, the cost depends on a few simple factors.
Note that if the extension to be moved is part of a “hunt group”, “pickup group” or similar arrangement, this will not work if the extension is changed to VoIP. In this case, please contact Telephone Operations to discuss your options.
Where a cost is involved, TSS policy is to require an electronic internal transfer order (eIT) to be issued before work can start. Please provide the following information when generating the eIT:
| Supplier department | Information Services |
|---|---|
| Supplier sub-unit | IT Infrastructure - Telephones and Security Service |
| Supplier receiver | Lyndsey Archibald |
The eIT will be passed for payment only when the work is completed to your satisfaction.
