Do you love interacting with people, feel passionate about music, or have always wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a museum? Then volunteering with MIMEd is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and contribute to a world renowned musical instrument museum. From becoming a docent or a gallery guide, helping with concerts, working with social media, or getting “hands-on” with curatorial or archival projects, our volunteers are essential in helping us preserve and promote our musical culture.
A musical background is not required as MIMEd will provide all necessary training.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Docents provide guided education tours of the museum to school and adult groups. Prospective docents must commit to training about the instruments in the collection, architectural fact regarding our historic buildings, and effective touring methods.
- Guides supplement the MIMEd security team by being the eyes and ears of the galleries, ensuring the safety of our visitors. Guides also provide content-related information about our instruments and general information about the museum.
- Assist the Friends of St Cecilia’s Hall and Museum with the busy concert programme at MIMEd.
Curatorial/Archival Project Assistants
- A variety of projects are available for those interested in behind the scenes work. Projects will be assigned to suit individual’s abilities and interests.
