Box of Broadcasts

Access Information: Access on and off campus
Description: BoB (Box of Broadcasts) enables all staff and students in subscribing institutions to choose and record any broadcast programme from 60+ TV and radio channels. The recorded programmes are then kept indefinitely (no expiry) and added to a growing media archive (currently at over 1 million programmes), with all content shared by users across all subscribing institutions.
Additional information: Please note that it not possible to access content in BoB when you are outside the UK, under the terms and conditions of the ERA licence.

 

Census Data Support Unit: Census Flow Data

Access information: Available on and off-campus from WICID (the Web-based Interface to Census Interaction Data). Choose Login via UK Federation. Registration is required. Follow the registration link for details.
Description: Census flow data (also known as interaction data) relate to flows of people between places, both origins and destinations.
Coverage: Migration and commuting data from the 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011census data.

Cross-National Time-Series (CNTS) Data Archive

Description:

The Cross-National Time-Series (CNTS) Data Archive provides ranges of annual data from 1815 for circa 240 countries. Variable groups include: area and population data, computer usage, domestic conflict events, elections, energy, highway vehicle data, industrial and labour force data, industrial production, international status indicators, legislative processes, mail, media, military, national government revenue and expenditure, national income and currency, telephones, physicians, political data, railroads, school enrollment, telegraph, trade, and urbanization. Derived variables include percent annual increase.

2023 Edition includes tags for Anti-Government Demonstrations, assassinations, general strikes, major government crises, revolutions, riots, terrorism/guerrilla warfare and purges.

 

 

IBSS (International Bibliography of Social Science) Online

Description:

Produced by the British Library of Political and Economic Science, International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) is an essential online resource for social science and interdisciplinary research focusing on the four core social science subjects of anthropology, economics, politics, and sociology. IBSS includes over 2.5 million bibliographic references to journal articles, books, reviews and selected chapters dating back to 1951. Over 2,800 journals are regularly indexed and some 7,000 book and chapter records are included each year. Abstracts are provided for around 80% of all current journal articles and users can link to the full text of articles in journals subscribed to by the University of Edinburgh.

Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)

Description:

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), based at the University of Michigan, is an international consortium of 750 academic institutions and research organizations.  ICPSR maintains a data archive of more than 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioural sciences. It hosts 21 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields.

 

Media Education Foundation (MEF) digital films service

Access Information: Access on and off campus
Description: MEF produces and distributes documentary films and other educational resources to inspire critical thinking about the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media. The service is provided via the Kanopy streaming service.
Coverage: Library has access to 140 videos.

 

OECD iLibrary

Access information: Access on and off campus.
Description:

Subscribed resources available via the iLibrary include the OECD/IEA Energy iLibrary, OECD Observer and OECD Economic Surveys.

The iLibrary also provides access to a substantial amount of free content, including the OECD Factbook, OECD Working Papers, Key Tables, Multilingual Summaries and most 'At a Glance' publications.

Produced and copyrighted by the American Psychological Association, and is a database of full-text articles from 56 journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber.

The database includes all material from the print journals with the exception of advertisements, editorial board lists, instructions to authors and similar material.

Sociology Source Ultimate

Description:

This fulltext database features more than 2.1 million records with subject headings from a 20,000+ term sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. Sociology Source Ultimate contains full text for more than 1000 journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for more than 1000 books and monographs, and full text for over 40,000 conference papers.  Sociology Source Ultimate features more than 26,000 author profiles covering the most cited and most influential authors in the database, who are experts in their field.

Coverage: 1908-present.  Coverage of topics ranges from gender identity, marriage and family, to demographics, political sociology, religion and socio-cultural anthropology.
