April - September 2010, funded internally by Information Services sustainability fund.
The aim of this project is to investigate enabling two-way linkage between research papers and research data. It builds upon development work for Edinburgh DataShare, a data repository service provided by the EDINA and Data Library division of IS, in partnership with the Library and Collections division, responsible for the Research Publications Service, the institutional (publications) repository. Both use DSpace as software platform.
Outcomes include technical enhancements to each repository, consideration of metadata and permanent identifier linkages, data citation issues, broker solutions, Linked Data ontologies, and linkage to other sites and document types. Further work may include implementation of some of the above, and potential scoping of a University data asset registry.
Broader consultation with the community on these issues was sought including the University’s Research Data Management group (initiated by Vice Principal Haywood in 2010), publishers such as BioMed Central, and repository managers and developers. The latter included facilitation of a LAIRD roundtable at the Repository Fringe event in September.
