About the Forum
The landmark Informatics Forum is a centre for innovation and interaction in the centre of the University. It sits alongside new teaching, conference and technology transfer facilities in Appleton Tower.
About the building
The Forum represents phase 1 of the Potter Row Development. This project is one of the major components of the University's masterplan framework for George Square / Bristo Square. The framework, prepared by RMJM Associates, was endorsed by the City of Edinburgh Council Planning Committee in June 2004.
The new building totals approximately 25,000 square meters. Its three principal users are:
- The School of Informatics
- The College of Humanities and Social Science
- The University Student Support Services

The Forum has won the following prizes:
- Scottish Design Award, Chairman's Award for Architecture
- Scottish Design Award, Public Building Award
- Royal Institute of British Architects Regional Award
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Scotland Sustainability Award

- Edinburgh Architectural Association Building of the Year, Commended
- British Council for Offices Regional Award for Best Corporate Office Building
- Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, Andrew Doolan Prize ‘Best Building in Scotland’
- Carbon Trust Commendation for Sustainability
