Extending your studies

There are opportunities for visiting students to stay on with us and complete their studies in Edinburgh.

Every year we receive enquiries from visiting students (on Study Abroad, Exchange and Parliamentary programmes) who have enjoyed their time at Edinburgh so much they would like to transfer to complete their degrees here.

EU/EEA students

If you are a student from the EU/EEA you should apply for a transfer via the normal UCAS application process. The deadline is 15th January for entry in September of that particular year.

The College has a very limited number of places for UK/EU students (who are funded by the Scottish Government). There is extremely strong competition for these places. Applications made after 15th January are only considered where there are exceptional circumstances.

International students

If you are a visiting student from outside the EU/EEA you should contact us directly to discuss your options for completing your degree at Edinburgh. For many international students applying to transfer is a straightforward process. However, you should bear in mind that the structure of degrees varies from country to country. There is a chance that you might be required to repeat a year of study in order to meet all of our graduation requirements at Edinburgh.

The latest date for transfer requests is four weeks prior to the start of the next academic session. Most students make enquiries about transfers between November and May, with the intention of returning in September.
