There are a range of reasons why an application may not have been successful. We are always prepared to explain the reasons behind rejections.
If your application to study at the University of Edinburgh has been unsuccessful we hope that this information will help you understand the reasons why this decision has been reached.
The most common reasons for an unsuccessful decision are listed below.
Possible reasons for rejection
- You thought you were qualified but have been told that you were unqualified
- You are taking resits
- Your qualifications were achieved more than two years ago
- You already have a degree
- You are a Home/EU applicant who applied after the 15th January deadline
- You have not provided an academic reference
- You have not disclosed all relevant information
- Your personal statement does not show motivation to study your chosen course
- You have applied for deferred entry
- Competition for places on your chosen degree programme is extremely high
- ECA mini-portfolio assessment results
The Admissions Office understands the disappointment of an unsuccessful application. The fact is that many unsuccessful applicants could make very good students.
The Admissions Office makes considerable efforts to be transparent and objective. The selection policy is reviewed on a regular basis in order to ensure that it remains relevant and reliable.
