Any student going to be absent for more than three weeks must arrange an "authorised interruption of studies".
An "authorised interruption of studies" is required if a student is going to be absent for more than three weeks. Students seeking an authorised interruption must have their Student Support Officer submit the request for authorised interruption of study form.
The form, together with appropriate evidence, should be sent to the Associate Dean (Academic Progress) at 55 George Square, Edinburgh.
Any such request must have the support of the student's Director of Studies.
If the interruption of studies is unplanned, students should inform their School as soon as they realise that they are going to be absent. Their Student Support Officer should then apply to the Associate Dean (Academic Progress) for authorised interruption of study as soon as possible thereafter.
The start date will normally be no earlier than the date at which the application was submitted for approval. Typically, requests for authorised interruptions of studies cannot be backdated.
For full guidance on authorised interruptions of study, see section 6.2 of the guidance on undergraduate direction of studies.
